Wishes for elderly.....
Some news
captures your heart. One I spent
sleepless nights was when I read about Nirbhaya (name given by media and
society after the incident) many years back.
I was raising a girl and the news kind of hit me. The panic and despair I felt were hard to
comprehend.
The recent
one that made me cry is about an 80 year old mom being abused by her daughter
in law. The person who helped to bring the culprit in front of the law says she
has behavioral problems. The culprit is a mother of two young girls, a teacher
by profession and a daughter herself. I
kept wondering how one can be so cruel by even prohibiting an elderly mom to
use a restroom in her own house along with physical abuse.
I was raised
in a household where grandparents are treated with the most respect. Their
needs were prioritized than anything else. As children we were supposed to be
on beck and call. My parents took care of my maternal grandparents and paternal
grandmother. They never complained about
meeting their needs, never compromised on their wellbeing and those grandparents
slept without fearing anything. Yes, there were occasional frustrations of missing
a function, not being able to go to a movie as a family or so but that was
never the fault of the elderly but rather an unfortunate circumstance. Now I
know how lucky these grandparents were, how peaceful they slept, and they never
doubted their children for the fear of their life.
Yes, only a
few suffer like this. Vast majorities are still in good hands. During this Season of hope I wish each elderly
to have a loving hand to hold on to, a loving friend to share their anxieties
and worries, a loving companion to share their meals and beyond all a kindred
spirit to be on their beck and call!
